Remembering Jahna Steele

I was very sad to read that legendary Vegas showgirl Jahna Steele died of accidental drug overdose on Jan. 22. Like many, I first learned of her when "A Current Affair" exposed Jahna as being a transsexual back in 1992. (She was one of the Strip's most popular performers passing as a woman at the time.) But it was her appearance in last year's documentary "Trantasia," as MC of the first transgender beauty pageant, that really endeared me to her and her sweet, self-deprecating sense of humor. A huge loss to the LGBT population. My thoughts to her family and friends. (WindyCityTimes)

Wow, they've really perfected the male to female transsexual surgery. She's stunning.

It makes me so sad that she's passed away.

How sad. I just watch "Trantasia" on Showtime yesterday and thought what a great thing that was happening for the transgendered community to finally get the respect they deserve.

    Such a shame.

  3. I grew up in San Antonio, Texas and I met this incredible human being when she would come on a regular basis to perform, singing live at the drag shows at the Paper Moon I believe the name of the bar was always so nice and sweet and kind, and then I had heard she had gone out to Vegas. She became a Las Vegas showgirl and made it to the top of the Vegas trip; so proud of her.

Sad to hear this about an incredible talent and a beautiful lady. May she rest in peace
