Weekend Tennis Roundup (06/23)

Alcaraz remains invincible. Bublik stuns Sinner. Vondrousova regains her form. Full report plus all the ATP beef that's fit to post BELOW.

Carlos Alcaraz kept his winning ways going, edging Jiri Lehecka 7-5, 6-7(5), 6-2 on Sunday to claim his second Queen's Club title and send out a powerful statement ahead of his Wimbledon defense.

Although the Czech cutie came up short, it was the first time I'd watched an entire match of his and I was duly impressed -- and not just with his imposing physique.

Alexander Bublik finally defeated Daniil Medvedev 6-3, 7-6 (4) on Sunday to win the Halle Open for the second time. It was his first win in seven matches with Medvedev. Although I'm not a fan of the faux Kazak, I must confess that the way he dismantled Jannik Sinner in the round of 16 was truly incredible, so I guess he earned the title by doing that alone.

Lloyd Glasspool and Julian Cash were overcome with delight after winning the trophy at Queen's Club. The duo defeated Michael Venus and Nikola Mektic in a three-set thriller 6-3 7-6(5) 10-6 to claim not only their fourth ATP Tour title but their first on grass.

The win makes them the first all-British team to win the title in history!

Meanwhile in Halle, Kevin Krawietz and Tim Puetz earned revenge on Sunday. One year after losing to Simone Bolelli and Andrea Vavassori in the Terra Wortmann Open final, the Germans returned the defeat the Italians 6-3, 7-6(4) to claim the ATP 500 trophy.

Those are some good-looking support members!

Marketa Vondrousova claimed her first title since winning Wimbledon two years ago by beating Chinese qualifier Wang Xinyu in the Berlin Open final. The 25-year-old Czech has struggled with injury over the last year but put that behind her to win 7-6(10) 4-6 6-2. She saved six set points in a tight first-set tie-break but came through that to take the opener. She put the tour on notice the day before when she destroyed World No. 1 Aryna Sabalenka in straight sets. Wang was equally impressive, knocking out French Open champ Coco Gauff 3 and 3 in the round of 16.

And American McCartney Kessler -- who surrounds herself with lookers -- secured her third career title Sunday, defeating Ukraine's Dayana Yastremska 6-4, 7-5 in a rain-interrupted Nottingham Open final. Kessler, who recorded her first main-draw tour-level win on grass earlier this month at Queen's, dominated the match from the outset and sealed the victory in 1 hour, 34 minutes.
