Business(man) as Usual
"The coronavirus is very much under control in the USA. Stock Market starting to look very good to me!" Donald Trump, whose Atlantic City casinos somehow defied the rule that the "house always wins," on Feb. 24.

Song of the Day: 'Live and Let Die' by Duffy
After reading Duffy's harrowing tale of rape and abduction, it got me revisiting her music catalog. I was a huge fan of "Rockferry" -- then very belatedly bought a used copy of the followup, "Endlessly," and never listened to it. (I'm nothing if not a completist.)
Although she writes that she's vanished for the past 10 years, I subsequently discovered she'd performed three songs on the soundtrack for "Legend" in 2015 -- as well as this 2009 contribution to "War Child Presents Heroes," of one of the best Bond themes ever.

Chris Evert Remembers Sister Jeanne in Heartfelt Instagram Post
This sure breaks my heart. Every tennis fan of a certain age grew up with the Everts, so hearing about Jeanne Dubin's passing felt like a death in the family. And speaking from my own experience, the death of a sibling is a loss like no other. xo
A Go-Go Comes Clean
Kathy Valentine -- aka the George Harrison of Go-Go's -- is coming to a venue near you to promote "All I Ever Wanted: A Rock 'n' Roll Memoir," due out on March 31. While fans of the first (and only) all-female band to hit No. 1 on the Billboard albums chart will enjoy hearing about the group's rise and fall, it's Valentine's Wild West childhood that provides the book's most compelling moments. Pre-order HERE.
Book tour details HERE.
Alice Ripley Returns to 54 Below
The inimitable Alice Ripley will be performing March 4 and 5 at Feinstein's/54 Below. A little bird tells me the set may include songs that crossed over from Broadway to pop -- and songs that should have. (Consider me intrigued!) Tickets HERE.

If Tuesday's crowd-pleaser did nothing else, it reminded me how much I loved CD (and cassette) singles!

Charred 'Remains'
Hey! As regular readers may have noticed, my Remains of the Day roundup has disappeared from my blog. My schedule at my "day job" changed recently, so I no longer have the right time to be able to compile it. As a result, I have been including additional headlines in my Page 1 Roundup, which used to be primarily for news from broadsheets. If things change, I plan to bring "Remains" back. But for now, please look at my morning roundup for lots of fun stuff. I'm writing this because my best friend informed me that he only recently figured this change out -- he just thought I'd abandoned "Remains" -- since he normally views my site on mobile mode and used to skip over Page 1 because he was already reading all of the dailies on his own.
Song of the Day: 'Look on Down From the Bridge' by Mazzy Star
Sad to read about the passing of David Roback, who led the 1980s Paisley Underground favorites known as the Rain Parade -- and later teamed with Hope Sandoval to create some of the best music of the 1990s as one-half of Mazzy Star, including the seminal tracks "Blue Flower," "Give You My Lovin'" and "Fade Into You" and perhaps their finest moment "Halah." I only recently learned he attended Palisades High School and later UC Berkeley with Susanna Hoffs, and that he and his brother his brother Stephen, a bass guitarist, formed a band with the future Bangle called the Unconscious. No cause of death has been released, but Roback was just 61. RIP.
