Yesterday would have been the incomparable Gilda Radner's 70th birthday. (How is that even possible?) The Broadway audience didn't know what to make of this when she performed it to close out "Gilda Live." The title hinted it was meant to be funny, but the lyrics were heart-breakingly sweet. This one gets me every time.
Thank you for posting this. I listened to this record over and over when it first came out. Managed to catch the film version at the theater too. This was a great closing number. For those who are interested, it's available on DVD on the Warner Archive label through the wbshop website. Happy Birthday Gilda!
ReplyDeleteI listen to it at least once everyday
DeleteWow, thanks for that memory. I'd forgotten all about that song. Remarkable talent taken far too soon.
ReplyDeleteThe last part.. too much, too little, too late was prophetic about her cancer & life
DeleteIt still hurts.
