'The Spirit of Detroit' Moves Him

My friend Frank Anthony Polito's return-to-Detroit media blitz continues, with a nice article in Madison-Park News HERE and an appearance on local talk show "Street Beat" -- on Deaf Celebration Day? -- in which he and the co-founder of McClure's Pickles explain why they left the Big Apple for Motown in recent months. Frank is promoting his new novel, "The Spirit of Detroit," available now HERE. His play "Band Fags!" is currently in production in San Francisco and got a mention in the Chronicle too, HERE. Go, Frank!

  1. He (or his publisher) "borrowed" the font and color usage on the cover straight from Michael Chabon's debut novel "The Mysteries Of Pittsburgh":

  2. The whole thing is an homage to that book, Frank's favorite.

  3. Thanks for the plug, Kenny! Happy I'm giving you so many new things to blog about.

Yes, my novel THE SPIRIT OF DETROIT is an homage to Chabon's THE MYSTERIES OF PITTSBURGH. While the cover isn't a total blatant rip-off, I'm glad Moose noticed the similarities :-)

  4. Ah, gotcha, K212. As soon as I saw the cover, it was obvious that Chabon (who, if I recall correctly, you think is vastly overrated, while I consider him America's greatest living writer) had some sort of influence on the end product.
