reCaptcha is a Google program. They include one image that's a scan from a book or newspaper or something else that needs to be digitized, where OCR software failed. The only word you have to get correct is the one that's not a scan. Then they take all the guesses at a single scan (could be millions a day), and the guess that's most prevalent is what they go with in their digitizing efforts.
Nope. I had the same thing happen on another site, so I just kept hitting the ReCaptcha until I got something that didn't look like Klingon.
