What's with all the past tense? I STILL have this album. Admittedly, it hasn't actually touched the turntable in many a year. But I haven't been able to actually part with it. I did however play Bernard Herrmann's "Psycho" and "Vertigo" soundtracks today, to get that Halloweeny feeling.
I think a lot of us had/have this. It was first released in 1964 and re-released in '73. Pretty cool for a major studio to release actual movie/cartoon sound effects this way. If you listen to some of the early Disney cartoon shorts, you can hear the sounds being used.
Wow. Blast from the past. We played it every Halloween. Mom liked to dress as a witch to scare kids, and we had a realistic mannequin hung from a noose on the porch. Until we got the Halloween II soundtrack (which is awesome), this Disney record was our Halloween soundtrack.
OMG, me three!!!
ReplyDeleteDid everybody buy this album? Yes, me too... but, "...Sounds of The Haunted House?" at Disneyland? I don't think so.
ReplyDeleteBut I love the moaning woman. Eight-year-old me was scared.
I played this over & over as a kid--I loved the thrill I got from it.
ReplyDeleteThe barking dog, the storm, the screaming victim (OOO-OOOEEEAAA!)...what great memories!
Me, four!! http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=DMS_3Vro6Ls
ReplyDeleteI totally remember this album!!! Can't count how many times me and my friends listened to it. Remember the water torture clip?

ReplyDeleteMy sister and I loved listening to this album. We had all the Disney albums! So near to my heart
