This morning's Song of the Day is a bittersweet one: Gwen Guthrie's "Ain't Nothin' Goin' On But the Rent" came into my head last night and put a big smile on my face ... until I went to pull up a photo of the R&B star and learned that she had died in 1999 of uterine cancer. That's an awful shame -- she was just 48 -- but then it made me happy again to know that her legacy lives on in her music. I'm living proof!
I sing this song all the time and no one knows what the hell I'm doing. Glad I'm not the only one who remembers it!
ReplyDeleteI'm very sorry to have lost Gwen at so young an age but that is one of my favorite songs. Got to have J.O.B. I was in the Navy in GTMO and this song always brings me back to the more pleasant times I had on that island
