Sad to read about the death of Sally Ride, the first American woman in space, of pancreatic cancer at 61. As a lover of biographies, the obituaries are frequently my favorite section of the paper -- and Ride's is no different. I've learned that she was a top-ranked junior tennis player, whom Billie Jean King encouraged to drop out of Stanford and turn pro. I also learned she is survived by her partner of 27 years, Tam O’Shaughnessy. Sixty-one is way too young to die, but Sally's legacy will live on forever. May she rest in peace. Read her New York Times obituary HERE.
Does not matter, young, old, man or woman, child...Sally made us dream, plan, work and become more than we thought we could. Not only a genuine teacher and role model, but a gifted woman we will sorely miss. R.I.P. Sally.
