While I spend most of my weekends at Bernie's, there's something about Andrew Haigh's "Weekend" -- about two guys who meet in a bar and then spend an intense 48 hours together telling stories and having sex -- that I think we can all relate to. (That one of them is "straight" may be something a lot of us can relate to, whether it be being or being with that person.) Tom Cullen and Chris New are being hailed for their performances and frankly, I don't think I've been this excited about a "gay" movie in ages.

'Weekend' Warrior
While I spend most of my weekends at Bernie's, there's something about Andrew Haigh's "Weekend" -- about two guys who meet in a bar and then spend an intense 48 hours together telling stories and having sex -- that I think we can all relate to. (That one of them is "straight" may be something a lot of us can relate to, whether it be being or being with that person.) Tom Cullen and Chris New are being hailed for their performances and frankly, I don't think I've been this excited about a "gay" movie in ages.
I saw the film a few weeks ago at the International Film Festival here in Auckland, AotearoaNZ. Highly recommended. Nuanced performances matched with authentic mood. Brings back memories for sure.
