'Virgin' Territory

In this clip, watch a feisty young Madonna stick it to a leery-of-videos John Oates on a panel at the New Music Seminar back in 1984. She couldn't be any more right -- or adorable (those chubby cheeks!) -- and is at her "dork from Michigan" finest when she reveals the title of her upcoming second album around 2:58. This is the girl I fell in love with ... (The legendary NEW MUSIC SEMINAR Returns to NYC on July 21.)

I always loved this. She was so fuckin' right and totally screwed them over. Out of the mouths of virgins. I found this so inspiring when she whipped out how image has always been part of music. And where are Hall & Oates today, poor chaps.

Thank you so much for this post! I had forgotten how cute Madonna was with her original face. It did make me remember how much I loved her all the way from the beginning of her career.

This is amazing. Thanks for sharing. I remember when I used to dream about going to the New Music Seminar as a teen. I love how she interrupts both James Brown and John Oates, who were both so much bigger than her then. Way to become a superstar!

See kids, Lady GaGa isn't really all that original after all. LOL

How could you not admire Madonna after watching that clip? She took what she was doing seriously and yet with a great sense of humor!

God...what happened to her? I guess fame has eaten away at her too, just a little less and differently than it did MJJ.

Uh, Nothing happened to her, Madonna has always been Madonna, the same girl we fell in love with when Borderline came out is the same girl currently rocking the world with her Sticky & Sweet tour.
And that about her *original face* look at yourself in the mirror and tell if you have your *original face* from 26 years ago. It is called aging and we can only hope we get to age like her.

Nate -- it's NOT called aging when you surgically rearrange everything on your face!
