Here's a fun Friday afternoon activity for you via my pal Lois in Cali:
this Web site tells you what the No. 1 song in America was on the day you were born. My brother had gotten me a framed copy of the cover of the June 8, 1967, New York Times for Christmas, so I already knew what the top story was (ISRAELIS ROUT THE ARABS -- gee, sound familiar?). And I knew that "In the Heat of the Night" robbed "The Graduate" of the Oscar for Best Picture of '67. But I did not know until now that Aretha Franklin's "Respect," was the No. 1 song the day I was born. I'm happy with my "result" because it's a genuine classic. Imagine if you'd been born June 8, 1992 when "Jump" by Kris Kross ruled the airwaves!
Is it a coincidence that I turned out to be a homo and June 9, 1984's song was "Time After Time" By Cyndi Lauper? Either way, I'll take it.
ReplyDeleteOh, to be born in the midst of disco fever. The #1 song on June
ReplyDelete8, 1977:
"I'm Your Boogie Man" by K.C. & the Sunshine Band.
Very cool. Used to be very interested in the charts, and have a Joel Whitburn Top Hits book I bought about 20 years ago.
ReplyDeleteFrom looking at this list, I can see that I got disconnected rather quickly from the "current" music scene about 15 years ago. Before that, I recognize about every title on the list. After that, there are few that I know. I don't think it is all me - I think the business changed some also.
Or maybe it is just me.
