"I Can't Go For That (No Can Do)" simply for the bassline and that sampled-to-death intro. It was, and remains, totally original. Although "Private Eyes" and "Out of Touch" are very close behind.
"remember '65? Well, the kids are all grown up, but their records are still alive".
When I put my fresh vinyl copy of "Bigger Than Both Of Us" on my Technics turntable, that was the first song I heard. And it changed everything I thought about Hall and Oates. "Back Together Again" is the best song they ever recorded.
Oh, they're all 'good' but "Maneater" was the dirtiest. I also loved "Private Eyes." I liked the vibe of "Family Man" because, again, it was about inappropriate sex...it's just not pleasant to listen to.
Ugh, what a question. All their songs were horrid. But I'll pick "Rich Girl", since it started the rumor that the song was about Patty Hearst. And I love music trivia like that. (Not as cool as the one about the Love Rollercoaster girl getting stabbed to death, but..)
1. Rich Girl - far and away 2. Say It Isn't So - though I hated it when it came out. I could listen to it over and over now. 3. Family Man - I loved this in Jr. High. It is tawdry, isn't it?
It's impossible to pick a favorite Hall & Oates song. Of course, "Kiss On My List" and "I Can't Go For That" are great choices. One I don't see mentioned in the comments is "Your Imagination". That's just an awesome song that I never get tired of hearing.
The Bird and The Bee versions are quite good. Not as good as their original material, but worth listening to.
I'm having a hard time deciding between "Maneater" and "Kiss on My List", but I'll have to go with "Kiss on My List".
ReplyDeleteIt's afternoon in the homeroom, she's about to let you go, and a locker slams on the plans yuou have tonight.... (Four words: Oh Yeah! Oh Yeah!).
ReplyDeletePrivate Eyes.
ReplyDeleteSeems like forever.
Those are my two favorites also and I would have to put Kiss On My List at the top of the list.

ReplyDeleteBest line in the song.
But i am out of my Head when you not around
I'm going with "I Can't Go For That (No Can Do)".

ReplyDelete"I Can't Go For That (No Can Do)" is my all-time-fave. The "Private Eyes" album is their best ever as well.
ReplyDeletePrivate Eyes, is my first and Sarah Smile is a close second
ReplyDeleteI concur with the "Kiss on My List" folks, but there are hardly any bad Hall & Oates songs.
ReplyDeleteSomething that rarely happens with me, I actually prefer H&O's remake of "You've Lost that Lovin' Feeling" to The Righteous Brothers' original.
Rich Girl! ...or Family Man- you know, for the kitch value
ReplyDeleteI would really have to say "Private Eyes" was my favorite H&O song. Daryl Hall in that detective's coat. Yep, I knew I was gay after that video.
ReplyDeleteRICH GIRL...one of the best Pop songs EVER!
ReplyDelete1. Rich Girl - far and away

OH! How could I forget Sarah Smile! Kiss On My List is still my fave though. Thanx to all of the comments and taking me down memory lane. :-)

Sarah Smile
ReplyDelete(or One on One)
It's a three-way tie:
ReplyDelete"Sara Smile" - a classic R&B tune!
"I Don't Want to Lose You," from 1978's under-appreciated "Along the Red Ledge" album.
"I Can't Go For That" from '81's "Private Eyes" LP.
"Say it isn't so" and "Family man"
ReplyDeleteNo contest: ONE ON ONE
ReplyDeleteFamily Man- cute video!
