Call it foreshadowing for her later thespian attempts, but when Madonna auditioned in the early '80s for a role on "Fame" she couldn't quite act the part of a "nice, plain, simple, virginal girl-next-door." On the contrary, the adorable young thing from Detroit seemed to have nailed the knocked-up "Papa Don't Preach" character that would surface in the video years later. (In her defense, that whole madonna-whore complex was always confusing to me, too.)
Audition guy: "The reading was very stiff and it sounded phony."
